Southern Caribbean Cruises: Grenada

The enticing aromas of locally grown spices waft on gentle breezes all across Grenada, a little British paradise where people are friendly, beaches are exotic, and rainforests fill you with love for Mother Earth.

Grenada is world famous as a leading producer of nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, mace and allspice. In fact, until Hurricanes Ivan and Emily devastated the island in 2004 and 2005, Grenada was the world’s second largest nutmeg producer. The country recovered quickly thanks to international aid and hard-working locals, resulting in upgraded facilities and new crops across the island.

Grenada’s history consists of countless battles for dominance in the region, first by French colonists against the cannibalistic Carib Indians of the 1600s, then by British against French, resulting in British control. As a consequence, Grenada, like most Caribbean islands, has many historic forts and colonial architecture to explore.

The capital city of St. George and its harbor are among the Caribbean’s most beautiful, and Grand Anse Beach is considered one of the world’s top ten beaches.
